BRUCE STILLMAN, PhD, FRS is President of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island, New York. He is also Director of the Cancer Center at CSHL, a position he has held since 1992. In these positions, Dr. Stillman oversees a broad portfolio of research activities in the areas of cancer, neuroscience, plant biology and molecular and cellular biology.
Dr. Stillman's research focuses on DNA replication, chromatin assembly, cancer and the cell division cycle.
For his research accomplishments, he has received numerous honors including election as a Fellow of The Royal Society and to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Stillman was the recipient of the 2004 Alfred P. Sloan Prize from the General Motors Cancer Foundation.
Dr. Stillman serves on the Advisory Boards of the MIT Cancer Center, the Lewis Sigler Institute at Princeton University and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Australia. Dr. Stillman was former Chair of the National Cancer Institute Board of Scientific Councilors and is now is a member of the National Cancer Institute Board of Advisors. He is also a member of the National Research Council Board on Life Sciences. Dr. Stillman received his PhD from the Australian National University.
