FERID MURAD, MD, PhD was elected to the IRX Therapeutics Board of Directors in March 2001. In 1998, Dr. Murad was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for his pioneering work on the role of nitric oxide as a central regulator of many biological responses.

Dr. Murad is currently Professor of Medicine and Director of the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the University of Texas-Houston Medical School, where he has also served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Integrative Biology and Pharmacology since 1997.

Prior to relocating to Houston, Dr. Murad was Vice President for Pharmaceutical Research and Development at Abbott Laboratories, and President and CEO of Molecular Geriatrics Corporation.

From 1970 to 1981, Dr. Murad was a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of Virginia, and from 1981 to 1988 served as Professor of Internal Medicine and Pharmacology at Stanford University.

Dr. Murad earned his MD and PhD degrees from Case Western Reserve University and his BA from DePauw University.
